Our story began in September of 1993 when TASER International was founded by CEO Rick Smith with his brother Tom Smith. They consulted with Jack Cover, former NASA scientist and inventor of the original TASER® conduct- ed energy weapons of the 1970s. Rick Smith was inspired to found the company after losing two high school football teammates who were shot and killed in a road rage incident. This experience led him to seek new technol- ogies that would enable people to protect themselves without deploying lethal force in hopes of creating a bullet-less world.

Sr Software Engineer II

Join Axon and be a Force for Good.

Here, you’ll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter.

Your Impact

This role is for builders who thrive in 0→1. In Axon’s Global Artificial Intelligence pillar, you’ll build a stealth product with a small team and a big mission: deliver something the market hasn’t seen, and do it with pace.

As a Senior Software Engineer I, you’ll lead key areas of the product from concept through launch. You’ll make pragmatic architecture decisions, keep quality high while moving fast, and help the team turn prototypes into a scalable product.

This is an AI-native delivery role: AI is a primary lever for how you ship, not an add-on and you have true Product acumen and ability to craft and build products end to end.

What You’ll Do

Lead the build of major product surfaces and services; own features end-to-end from design to operations.

Drive product clarity in ambiguity: define the problem, shape MVP scope, set success metrics, and align stakeholders on what “done” means.

Build and ship software AI-natively across the SDLC (planning, implementation, testing, code review, debugging, and operations), with clear validation practices to maintain correctness and quality.

Measure and improve delivery outcomes using engineering metrics (lead time, PR throughput, defect rates, test coverage, incident load) and iterate on how the team ships.

Make architecture choices that balance speed and scalability—knowing when “temporary” becomes “permanent.”

Build and enforce engineering hygiene that doesn’t slow you down (testing strategy, CI/CD, observability, sensible release practices).

Partner tightly with Product and Design (and operate effectively when they’re not in the room) to prioritise, sequence, and ship the highest-value increments.

Mentor engineers and help establish a high-trust, high-ownership culture.

Work Location: This role is based out of our London office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation. We believe that connection fuels innovation, and our in-office culture is designed to foster meaningful teamwork, mentorship, and shared success.
Reports to: SVP, AI

What You Bring

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

7+ years of software development experience, including ownership of product capabilities in production.

Demonstrated, heavy AI-native delivery: consistent use of AI across the SDLC with concrete examples of faster delivery and maintained/improved quality.

Strong engineering judgement under uncertainty; ability to simplify and still build something great.

Experience building cloud-native services and/or modern user experiences that scale.

Comfort working across boundaries: product, design, customers, and platform dependencies.

Product judgement sufficient to ship: ability to frame problems, define MVP scope, make trade-offs, and drive to measurable customer outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

Startup or internal incubation experience.

Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into product experiences responsibly.

Track record of accelerating teams through strong technical leadership.

Experience operating in PM-light environments where engineers help drive prioritisation and discovery alongside delivery.

Benefits that benefit you

Competitive base salary and RSUs

Comprehensive pension plan with matching contribution

Private health insurance & cash plans

30 days paid holiday + UK public holidays

Enhanced maternity/paternity leave

GymPass subscription

Life assurance & income protection

Career growth support and wellness resources
