Job Description

About Payoneer

Founded in 2005, Payoneer is the global financial platform that removes friction from doing business across borders, with a mission to connect the world’s underserved businesses to a rising global economy. We’re a community with over 2,500 colleagues all over the world, working to serve customers, and partners in over 190 countries and territories.

By taking the complexity out of the financial workflows–including everything from global payments and compliance to multi-currency and workforce management, to providing working capital and business intelligence–we give businesses the tools they need to work efficiently worldwide and grow with confidence.

Role summary

We’re looking for a senior risk leader to join Payoneer’s Working Capital business and lead risk management for our global eCommerce and B2B portfolio. Reporting directly to the GM of Working Capital, this role will lead a global Risk team and take end-to-end ownership of risk strategy, underwriting, and portfolio risk management across a sizable portfolio with tens of millions of dollars in exposure.

This is a highly strategic and hands-on role, combining strong risk expertise with business judgment and analytical capabilities. The Director will play a key role in enabling sustainable growth while maintaining strong portfolio performance, and will work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams across Product, Finance, Data, GTM, Legal, and Operations.

What you’ll do

  • Own and drive the global risk strategy for the Working Capital portfolio, balancing business growth with portfolio quality, loss performance, and the company’s risk appetite.
  • Define and continuously evolve underwriting and risk frameworks, including eligibility criteria, exposure limits, approval authorities, decisioning rules, and exception processes across markets, customer segments, and Working Capital products.
  • Lead the underwriting of larger and more complex customers, providing hands-on risk assessment and decision-making on material exposures and structuring appropriate risk mitigants where needed.
  • Own portfolio risk management and performance, using data and analytics to monitor portfolio trends, identify emerging risks, and translate insights into changes in underwriting, eligibility, exposure, and risk controls.
  • Advance our risk capabilities and decisioning, partnering with Data, Product, and R&D to improve analytical models, automation, risk infrastructure, and scalable underwriting processes.
  • Partner closely with business and cross-functional teams, including GTM, Product, Finance, Data, Legal, Compliance/Fraud, and Operations, to translate business needs into practical risk solutions and support sustainable growth.
  • Lead risk governance and executive-level discussions, including presenting portfolio performance, key risks, material cases, and recommended actions to senior management and the Risk Committee, including the CFO.
  • Lead and develop the global Risk team, setting clear priorities, professional standards, methodologies, and operating practices across the team.

Who you are

  • 7+ years of experience in credit risk, underwriting, or portfolio risk management, including experience in a senior risk role with meaningful ownership of underwriting strategy and portfolio performance.
  • Strong SMB and commercial underwriting expertise, with hands-on experience assessing complex businesses, cash flows, repayment capacity, exposure, and risk mitigants.
  • Experience managing a sizable portfolio and material customer exposures, with a strong understanding of portfolio risk methodologies, including concentration risk, cohort analysis, early-warning indicators, and loss performance.
  • Deep familiarity with the eCommerce ecosystem, including marketplace dynamics, seller economics, business models, and the risk characteristics of eCommerce businesses.
  • Experience developing and evolving risk and underwriting frameworks, including policies, eligibility criteria, exposure strategies, and decisioning rules.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and business judgment, with the ability to use data to make sound risk decisions while balancing growth opportunities, customer needs, and portfolio performance.
  • Proven people leadership experience, including managing and developing risk professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate complex risk topics clearly and effectively engage with senior management and decision-making forums.

Advantage

  • Experience in a fintech or technology-driven environment, with exposure to data-driven underwriting, automated decisioning, and scalable risk processes.
  • Experience working in a global environment and leading global teams.
