HackerRank helps companies like NVIDIA, Amazon, and Microsoft hire and upskill the next generation of developers based on skills, not pedigree. Our platform is trusted by over 2,500 of the world’s most innovative companies to build strong engineering teams ready for what’s next.

Software has entered an era where humans and AI build side by side. As this shift accelerates, the definition of strong technical talent is changing. We give companies better ways to identify and invest in next-generation skills.

People at HackerRank care deeply about the impact of their work and sweat the small details so our customers can be wildly successful with products they genuinely love to use. We move with urgency and believe great outcomes come from high standards.

About the role

HackerRank Interviews is a live technical interviewing platform designed to evaluate how candidates solve realistic engineering problems, not just whether they can pass an algorithm test. Candidates and interviewers collaborate in a shared workspace using coding tools, production-style repositories, and Plan-Build-Review tasks. The platform also supports observable AI-assisted development, letting teams assess how candidates prompt, review, and apply AI-generated work, with observation tools and post-interview reports giving hiring teams clearer, structured evidence for decisions.
In this role, you'll help lead the Interviews product - an AI-native, pair-programming interview experience that gives interviewers the ability to collaborate with candidates on real-world problems and code repos. You'll shape how the platform evolves across richer ADE experiences (harnesses like Claude Code and Codex CLI), Chakra Assist for evaluation, richer session observation (screen sharing, A/V), and reporting across in-product, exports, APIs and MCP. You'll work closely with engineers as collaborators and as the product's core customer and user base including senior engineering leadership as stakeholders who care deeply about this space.

What you will do

Own the roadmap for how HackerRank Interviews evaluates AI-assisted development including richer ADE harnesses, Chakra Assist, and session observation capabilities.

Define how the platform captures and surfaces signals on how candidates prompt, review and apply AI-generated work, so interviewers get clearer, structured evidence.

Drive the reporting and integration strategy across in-product reporting, exports, APIs and MCP.

Engage directly with engineering customers and users including senior engineering leadership as the primary audience for this product, translating their needs into roadmap decisions.

Represent the product in high-visibility, customer-facing moments with composure, including when executives engage directly and unexpectedly.

Partner closely with Engineering and Design to ship production-quality, AI-native interview experiences.

Embrace AI - in how we operate, as well as in the product.

Who you are

Overall 7+ years of total professional experience including at least 1 year of hands-on Software Engineering.

5+ years of Product Management experience, preferably building B2B SaaS, enterprise products and/or tech services and/or platforms, and you are currently working as a PM today.

Comfortable being the technical/product voice in a room full of engineers, including stakeholders like senior engineering leadership

Able to stay composed and sound under sudden high-visibility pressure for example, a CTO persona dropping into a live customer channel.

A strategic thinker who can evaluate complex challenges, prioritise effectively, and balance short-term progress with long-term success.

Deeply passionate about AI using it as a reflex across your own workflows, not just in the product you build.

Ability to deep dive into ambitious problem statements and create customer value.

Proven track record of successfully launching and growing new products and/or significant features.

Ability to work in a fast paced cross team, cross geo environment and to deliver on a common vision.

Ability to work with engineers, designers and analysts and be comfortable presenting to non-technical/business stakeholders and customers.

Even better if you have

Hands-on fluency with agentic coding harnesses (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, Copilot Workspace, or similar) deep enough to reason about what a good AI-assisted engineering actually looks like.

Experience designing or owning a GTM motion where the buyer and user were engineers or engineering leadership, rather than a traditional non-technical economic buyer.

Experience operating in a lean, founder-style team with no dedicated marketing support i.e., you've personally built your own sales decks, messaging and customer-facing materials before, not just briefed a marketing team.

Background in HR tech, talent assessment, or technical hiring.

Experience building reporting/analytics or API-level integrations (e.g. MCP, data exports) for a technical audience.

You will thrive in this role if you

You are a builder at heart. You enjoy creating something from scratch, transforming ideas into tangible, high-impact products.

Ambiguity excites you. You’re comfortable working in undefined spaces, carving out clarity where little exists, and defining a clear vision and strategy.

You take a customer-first approach. You excel at identifying unmet customer needs and turning those insights into innovative product solutions.

You are a strategic thinker. You can evaluate complex challenges, prioritise effectively, and make decisions that balance short-term progress with long-term success.

You thrive in fast-paced environments. You’re energised by working on high-impact initiatives where priorities can shift as you gain new insights.

You have a bias for action. You’re not afraid to experiment, iterate, and learn quickly in pursuit of delivering exceptional outcomes.

You are deeply passionate about AI. You’re in the weeds and trying out AI tools constantly and are at a point where you are using AI as a reflex to try and automate several workflows in your life and 10x yourself.

Senior Engineering Manager

HackerRank helps companies like NVIDIA, Amazon, and Microsoft hire and upskill the next generation of developers based on skills, not pedigree. Our platform is trusted by over 2,500 of the world’s most innovative companies to build strong engineering teams ready for what’s next.

Software has entered an era where humans and AI build side by side. We move with urgency and believe great outcomes come from high standards.

About the role

Hiring is one of the most consequential decisions a company makes. 3,000+ enterprises rely on HackerRank to get it right. We are now reinventing how that works for the agentic era. The AI/ML systems that power this platform are not auxiliary features. They are the product.

Open Problems

The agentic era is reshaping every layer of the hiring stack. These are some of the core problems you'll be working across, none of them fully solved.

Chakra: Building an autonomous AI interviewer that conducts, adapts to, and evaluates technical interviews end to end.

Integrity: Detecting fraud and suspicious behavior across multiple signal types. The ways candidates game assessments change frequently, and the models need to keep up.

Evaluation: Measuring technical skill in a world where AI writes the code. The old proxies no longer hold and the new ones have not been defined yet.

Your focus will shift across these depending on where the highest-leverage work is at any given time.

What you will do

Research, Design, and Develop advanced Deep Learning models and novel Neural architectures.

Explore architectures beyond Transformers, including State Space Models (SSMs), Liquid Neural Networks (LNNs), and Hybrid approaches.

Design and implement Agentic AI systems, Recursive Reasoning Engines, and tool-augmented architectures.

Fine-tuning of models using PEFT (e.g. LoRA, QLoRA etc.), and Knowledge Distillation.

Optimize model Performance, Inference Efficiency, Latency, and Memory utilization.

Design rigorous experiments, evaluation frameworks, and benchmarks to validate research hypotheses.

Translate cutting-edge research into scalable, production-grade AI systems.

Who you are

M.Tech./M.S./Ph.D. in AI/ML or related disciplines, preferably from a Tier 1 premier Research Institution.

2–3 years of experience in Deep Learning, Machine Learning, or Applied AI Research.

Strong foundations in Linear Algebra, Probability, Statistics, Optimization, and Deep Learning algorithms.

Proficient in frameworks like PyTorch/JAX, with hands-on model development experience.

Demonstrated ability to implement, reproduce, and extend research papers, including building neural architectures from scratch.

Familiarity with distributed computing, GPU acceleration, and scalable ML infrastructure.

Strong understanding of experimental design, model evaluation, benchmarking, and statistical validation.

Demonstrated research aptitude through publications, open-source contributions etc.

Even better if you have

Publications at top venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL) or notable open-source contributions in model architectures or agentic systems.

Experience with LLM evaluation, fraud or anomaly detection, or building systems where the “ground truth” is still being defined.

Hands-on work taking models from research into low-latency, production inference, such as quantization, distillation, or serving optimization.

You will thrive here if you

You enjoy solving open-ended research problems and challenging established assumptions.

You prefer first-principles thinking and rigorous experimentation over simply applying existing models.

You are excited to explore next-generation AI architectures beyond traditional Transformers.

You thrive in a fast-paced environment with intellectual freedom, ownership, and direct collaboration with leadership.

You are passionate about turning novel AI research into efficient, scalable, real-world systems.

Software Development Engineer Intern

Customer Experience Engineering is where customers, product, and engineering meet. As a CXE 2, you’ll lead complex technical problems and high-stakes customer situations from investigation through resolution and prevention. You’ll combine technical depth with the judgment and communication needed to guide customers when the answer is not yet clear.

CXE works from one shared queue. You’ll take the lead on problems that require deeper investigation, solution design, or cross-team coordination, while helping the team respond to customer needs across the queue. You’ll also turn what you learn into solutions, tools, and AI-enabled workflows that reduce repeat problems.

What you’ll do

Own complex, ambiguous, enterprise, and escalated customer problems through investigation, resolution, communication, and closure.

Come prepared to lead technical customer calls and escalations. Understand the account and issue history, ask precise questions, explain what is known and unknown, and give customers a clear plan and next update.

Investigate unfamiliar issues across web applications, APIs, integrations, authentication, data, and code paths. Use logs, audit trails, session data, and monitoring tools to reconstruct what happened, test hypotheses, and identify a path to resolution when no playbook exists.

Build scripts, integrations, automations, tooling, and other technical solutions for customer and team needs. Contribute code fixes where appropriate through Engineering review.

Build and improve AI agents and workflows. Evaluate their accuracy and reliability, strengthen the context and safeguards they depend on, and measure whether they reduce customer effort or repeat work.

Lead CXE’s technical and customer response during high-severity incidents. Help drive containment, engage the right on-call teams, provide timely updates, contribute to customer-facing RCAs, and follow corrective actions through to completion.

Partner with account teams to understand strategic customers, spot recurring friction or emerging risks, and address problems before they become escalations.

Manage concurrent priorities while protecting shared queue health, service levels, and communication quality across shifts and regions.

Turn patterns from customer issues into adopted runbooks, onboarding improvements, automation, product feedback, or Engineering action that reduces recurrence. Mentor CXE 1 engineers through pairing, reviews, and case debriefs.

Participate in rotational shifts and on-call coverage, including occasional evenings or weekends, to support global customer needs.

Who you are

You have 3 to 7 years of experience in technical support, product support, solutions engineering, implementation, cloud support, software engineering, SDET, or a similar customer-facing technical role.

You can independently investigate unfamiliar technical problems using API and application logs, audit trails, monitoring, session data, and other available tools. You can isolate likely causes across web applications, APIs, integrations, and customer workflows, and explain the evidence behind your conclusions.

You know how to reconcile conflicting evidence, validate findings, and diagnose authentication and integration failures across systems.

You can write and debug practical code in Python or a similar language, read unfamiliar code, and build scripts or automations that others can use.

You are ready to lead difficult customer conversations. You prepare thoroughly, communicate with technical credibility and empathy, adapt your message to different audiences, and give clear updates even before the root cause is known.

You make sound decisions under pressure: assessing impact, prioritising work, bringing in the right people, and keeping investigations moving.

You take ownership without waiting to be chased. You can work effectively across Engineering, Product, and GTM while keeping both technical accountability and the customer’s next steps clear.

You have hands-on experience using AI to investigate, build, and improve workflows, and you test its output before relying on it.

You are open to rotational shifts and occasional on-call coverage across a global customer base.

Even better if you

Debugged ATS, HR-tech, developer-tooling, or other complex B2B SaaS integrations.

Built and maintained customer solutions, internal tools, agents, or automations that were adopted and had measurable impact.

Evaluated AI agents or workflows for accuracy, reliability, and safety, then improved them based on real use.

Contributed fixes or improvements to a production codebase in a support, solutions, tooling, or software engineering context.

Worked directly with strategic enterprise customers on technical solutions or proactive risk reduction.

You will thrive in this role if

You enjoy getting to the bottom of customer problems and building solutions that prevent them from recurring.

You can be calm and credible with a customer under pressure while driving a rigorous technical investigation behind the scenes.

You move comfortably between debugging, building, customer communication, and cross-team coordination.

You see patterns across individual cases and turn them into improvements the team adopts.

You use AI and coding tools to extend what you can do and take responsibility for the quality of what you build.

You help others grow through your judgment, coaching, and the systems you leave behind.

Compensation

The base salary range for this role is $120,000–$135,000, plus a target 10% annual bonus tied to individual and company performance.
Bengaluru. In-office, every day. This is not remote.

HackerRank Films is our in-house studio in Indiranagar, Bangalore. We tell the story of how the economy is going to shape up with AI, and the role HackerRank will play in it, across three channels: HackerRank, Hackonomics, and our CEO's personal voice.

What you will do

You will write the narrative. Long-form well researched pieces.

X posts with a hook and major compelling points with a clear rationale.

Video scripts for Hackonomics that earn the first two seconds.

Founder posts that sound exactly like the founder, not like a brand. You will take a genuinely technical idea, agents, assessments, the economics of AI hiring, and make it land for both the engineer and the CEO reading it, without getting the tech wrong.

You will lead a small team: 1 to 2 writers and a pool of freelancers. You will set the bar for voice and taste.

Who you are

You already write well about tech. Dev tools, AI, engineering culture, doesn't matter which, you're already doing it.

You've got range. A 1,200-word essay, a 12-word post, and a 30-second script in the same week, and all three are good.

You have taste. Example: we hand you a routine product update, and you know to cut most of it and lead with the one detail a developer would actually stop scrolling for.

You use AI tools well and you're honest about it. Claude Code is your default, and you can tell us exactly where it helped and where you overruled it.

What you will not be doing

Not running paid media, SEO keyword farms, or marketing ops.

Not managing a 10-person content factory. This is a small, senior, high-craft team.

Not writing by committee. You own the voice.

Not working from home. We build together, in the room.

To apply: send us your two best long-form pieces and two best short posts. Skip the cover letter. Forward Deployed Engineer

Customer Experience Engineering is where customers, product, and engineering meet. As a CXE 1, you’ll investigate real technical problems across our platform, APIs, integrations, data, and customer workflows. You’ll learn to trace issues to root cause, communicate clearly with customers and internal teams, and build the judgment to own increasingly complex work independently.

This is not a traditional support role built around scripts and handoffs. You’ll work in one shared CXE queue, use AI as part of your everyday engineering toolkit, and contribute to the knowledge, automation, and product improvements that prevent repeat problems. CXE 1 is designed as a transition into CXE 2 as your depth, independence, and customer readiness become consistently visible.

What you will do

Own standard and moderately complex customer issues from first investigation through resolution and closure.

Debug web application, API, integration, authentication, configuration, and data issues using logs, developer tools, SQL, and established investigation patterns.

Communicate clearly and empathetically across tickets, calls, incidents, and internal channels; ask precise questions, set expectations, and close every loop.

Work with CXE 2 engineers on complex, high-risk, or enterprise cases, taking on greater ownership as your readiness grows.

Create structured escalation reports for confirmed product issues and stay accountable for progress and customer closure when Engineering is involved.

Use AI tools safely to accelerate investigation, validate hypotheses, improve responses, correct support-agent outputs, and strengthen team knowledge.

Turn learning from customer issues into better documentation, runbooks, product feedback, and small automation or tooling improvements.

Protect shared queue health by prioritising accurately, meeting service levels, documenting work cleanly, and helping rebalance work across shifts.

Participate in rotational shifts and on-call coverage, including occasional evenings or weekends, to support global customer needs.

Who you are

A recent graduate or early-career engineer with up to 3 years of relevant experience. Strong freshers are encouraged to apply.

Strong programming fundamentals and comfort reading code; experience with Python, JavaScript, Java, or a similar language.

Familiarity with REST APIs, HTTP, web applications, and how software systems communicate.

Working knowledge of SQL and an interest in using data to investigate and validate behaviour.

Curious and systematic: you want to understand why something failed, not just make the error disappear.

Clear written and verbal communicator who can explain technical ideas in plain language to customers and engineers.

Comfortable asking for review when risk or uncertainty is high, then applying the feedback quickly.

Open to rotational shifts and occasional on-call coverage across a global customer base.

Even better if you have

Built a project, script, bot, or automation that solved a real problem.

Worked with logs, observability tools, cloud platforms, SSO/SAML/OAuth, or third-party integrations.

Used AI coding tools such as Claude, Cursor, Copilot, or similar and can explain how you validated their output.

Contributed to an open-source project, hackathon, internship, or production codebase.

You will thrive here if

You enjoy ambiguous technical problems and are persistent enough to find the real cause.

You care equally about technical correctness and how the customer experiences the resolution.

You learn fast, seek feedback, and turn new knowledge into repeatable practice.

You solve rather than route and take pride in leaving no loose ends.

Experience measuring content quality, learning outcomes, developer workflows, or community engagement.

Experience working with consumer tech, developer tools, learning platforms, marketplaces, or B2B SaaS products.
